Guatemala is a country I fell in love with as soon as our plane landed in the Guatemala City airport. I remember the 3 hour bus ride to our village; everyone on the van was asleep, except me. I was wide-eyed as I looked out the window at all the new sights and smelled the smells that you can never forget. Guatemala is a country where I felt peace- where I felt I belonged. As our van started its way up the rocky, mountain roads, every person you saw would wave and tell all their friends that Americans were here. I felt so loved and appreciated. The children in our village remembered who I was when I returned the next year and I will never forget how giddy I got when I saw the friends I had made the previous year. Guatemala, especially the little village called Xejuyup, will forever be in my heart, because I left my heart there.
